A few words about the new Permit-less carry law.
Beginning July 1st, 2015 a new Kansas law goes into effect allowing Kansas residents, who may legally carry a handgun, to carry it concealed within the boundaries of Kansas without holding a KS concealed carry permit. You MUST still have a concealed carry permit to carry concealed outside the State.

Realizing that there are going to be people who want to carry concealed without a permit but still want training to protect themselves, I've debated whether or not to teach a separate class simply for basic pistol instruction. I've decided not to.
Why?
There simply isn't any reason to change the CC curriculum for a permit-less carrier. Currently, the class would cover all the basics of carrying a concealed handgun in public, range time to shoot your handgun, plus the BIG BONUS of covering Kansas self-defense law. (a basic handgun course would NOT cover KS laws)
PLUS - Upon successful completion of the CC class you receive a "certificate of completion". This certificate can either be sent in to apply for a KS CC permit OR it can be tossed in a drawer for a permit-less carrier. The good news is that this certificate does NOT have an expiration date on it. So, you can dig it out of the drawer should you decide to pursue obtaining a KS CC permit and it would still be valid.
Since the Senate Bill was introduced, I've asked my students after attending the CC class if they thought the training should still be required to obtain a permit. 100% of them responded, "YES". This speaks highly of the CC curriculum. The class opens many eyes to gun safety, gun handling, and defensive decisions. Almost every action someone takes with a handgun for defensive purposes will be a felony and needs to be justified. Come to class and learn your rights and other irreplaceable knowledge to help keep yourself on the right side of the law.
Anyone over 17.5 years of age or older is welcome to attend my CC class, even if you are not pursuing a permit or just want to learn more about what Kansas law has to say about protecting yourself. Feel free to call or email me with any questions. Thank you!
